Ballroom dancing is more than just steps; it’s a journey of transformation. On January 24th, 2025, our team from Sarasota packed our dance shoes and glittering gowns to compete at the prestigious Majesty Dancesport competition held at the Embassy Suites in Orlando.
For a private dance instructor, there is no greater reward than seeing students overcome their nerves and shine under the spotlight. This event was particularly special because it showcased two incredible women at very different stages of their dance journey—Michelle and Mary.
Michelle: From First Steps to the Stage in 3 Months
Michelle’s story is the perfect inspiration for anyone who thinks, “Is it too late for me to start?”
Michelle walked into her first dance lesson in Sarasota just three months prior to the event. She had never competed before. However, with just one month of intensive preparation, we decided to take a leap of faith and enter the Newcomer Division.
Competing for the first time is daunting, but Michelle handled it with grace. We prepared a special Solo Show number, tailored to highlight her strengths.
The result? She didn’t just survive; she thrived! The judges saw her dedication, and the audience saw a woman enjoying every moment. It proves that with the right private dance instruction and a focused routine, you can be ready for the floor much faster than you think.
Mary: A Triumphant Return to the Silver Level
Mary’s journey was different. With over 7 years of dance experience, she is a seasoned dancer. However, life happens, and she hadn’t stepped onto a competition floor in over five years.
For Majesty Dancesport 2025, we set a high bar: the Silver Category.
Preparing for the Silver level requires precision, technique, and stamina. We spent three months in the studio refining her frame and footwork. Like Michelle, Mary also performed a stunning Solo Show number that allowed her to express her deep passion for dance.
Despite the natural nerves of returning after a long break, Mary’s performance was powerful. Her beautiful dress and confident movement proved that “muscle memory” combined with fresh coaching brings fantastic results.
Learning from the best
Majesty Dancesport wasn’t just about competing. We also had the privilege of attending workshops with some of the best dance coaches and judges in America.
Constant learning is a core value of my teaching philosophy. The insights we gained in Orlando are already being integrated into our private lessons in Sarasota. Whether we are working on a Waltz frame or Rumba hips, we are using world-class techniques.
